It all happened after the 26-year-old headed out for, you know, a ‘few quiet drinks’ at her local in Winnipeg, but was left massively out of pocket having flown on the solo trip to New York.
According to Alex, all she had with her were the ‘clothes on her back, and her handbag containing a phone charger, sunglasses, spare change, ID etc’.
She told us:
I’m not a heavy drinker and I never have pre-drinks but this time we were drinking all day and night and I even bought a $90 bottle of champagne, it tasted disgusting but I wanted to splurge a bit, just for banter! YOLO
Me and my friend Janine had been out the last couple of weekends which is unusual for us but we were just enjoying life and having fun. But I ended up losing her and I went for late night food at a chicken shop which is next to the bus station and I saw a coach heading to the airport.
I remember thinking to myself, ‘it would be nice to fly away somewhere’.
The next thing I had a really vivid dream that I was on a plane – it was very, very realistic, but I didn’t think much of it and just went back to sleep. I woke up when we were landing and I was so confused.
I spoke to my friends who informed me of my journey through what I had posted on social media
The whole thing actually happened and was well-documented on her Snapchat, according to her mates.
Now, I’ve had some big nights out, but these are something else altogether.
What an absolute legend.
Who out of your friends would do this?

He says it’s the best thing he’s ever done.
When Minnesota resident Earl Melchert left for work on Sept. 5, he didn’t plan on becoming someone people would call a hero. When he was on his way back home, however, he noticed something abnormal moving in his field and decided to act.
“I thought at first it was a deer,” Melchert, 65, he said. It wasn’t a deer, but a 15 year old girl who had gone missing from her home nearly a month before.
“I could make out her face, and I went, ‘Oh my gosh, this is the gal from Alexandria,’” Melchert said. “It’d been on the news, it’d been online. It went national. It was on posters, in stores, her face, her picture. Right away I recognized her.”
Jasmine Block of Alexandria was abducted by a family friend named Thomas Barker 29 days earlier. He had showed up outside her home and asked for help with a family issue, and because she knew him, she went along. When they got to his house, he restrained her with zip ties and, with two other men, sexually and physically assaulted her.
The men had moved Block to multiple different locations throughout the month, but she was eventually able to escape. After knocking at several homes and not getting an answer, she swam across a lake near Melchert’s house and started running through the field, which is when he saw her.
Block was late able to identify the three men who kidnapped her and they have all been arrested and are being held in the Douglas County jail.
Police in Minnesota had originally offered a $7,000 reward to anyone who had information on where Block was, so when Melchert found her, they decided to give him the money. But he had a better idea. As soon as Alexandria Police Chief Richard Wyffels handed Melchert the check, he turned and gave it to Block, along with a big hug.
“The family needs the money,” he said. “To me, yeah, that’s a lot of money, but they need it way worse than I do.”
The act of kindness has inspired people all over the internet. When Wyffels posted about the event on the Alexandria Police Department Facebook page, comments and likes started rolling in. “He believes that young lady that came running towards him that September day is the real hero,” Wyffels wrote. “Thank you Earl, it is people like you that make this world a better place.”
